Edna Christen, a member of the family that developed the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co., died Monday at a Santa Rosa hospital of heart failure. She was 77.

Born in Attica, Ind., she spent the last 22 years in Windsor after moving back to Sonoma County from Porterville. She had lived in Sonoma County in the early 1960s.

She was a homemaker. Her son, Bob Brumley of Windsor, said Christen was a member of Roseland Post 3781, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Post 111 of the American Legion in Healdsburg.

In addition to her son, she is survived by other sons, Isaac Brumley of Bremerton, Wash., George Smith of Southern California, and Jake Smith of Lafayette, Ind.; daughters, Betty Kepley of Reno, Nev., Wretha Hunt of Buffalo, N.Y., and Lois Williams of Lafayette; sister, Lucille Freeman of Attica, Ind.; 28 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her friend, Fannie Fouche of Santa Rosa.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park's Shiloh Addition in Windsor.

Memorial donations are preferred to the Redwood Empire Chapter, American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.
