Charles Fiedler, 56, of Spencer was found dead early Friday in a cistern near 20 East Twelfth.
Dr. L. F. Frink, cornoner, said Fiedler had been dead for serval hours after the body was discovered about 7:30 a.m.
Lona Armstrong, a nurses' aid at the Spencer Municipal Hospital made the discovery and notified the police.
Having been relieved from duty at 7 a.m., Miss Armstrong was on her way home, noticed the top removed from the cistern and investigated.
Police Officer Harold Giep, who recovered the body, said there was six feet of water in the cistern at the time.
The cistern was from nine to ten feet in depth, the officer said.
Rites Monday
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Cobb-Warner funeral chapel.
Rev. W. K. Williams of the Congregational church will officiate and interment will be in Riverside cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Orville Hemmig of Hartey, and a grandson, Jay Dee Hemmig.
Mrs. Fiedler died in March, 1949.
