Karl was a very talented violinist, but later worked selling real estate in Chicago to support his family.

His wife was named Jane Ogden Hunter. In one census, she was recorded as a music teacher. Jane Hunter died in 1954 in Chicago.

They had two children, Helene Francella, born about 1902, and a son F. Ogden Hunter, born about 1903. The son died in his 20s.
