David's parents, John and Mary Alsdorf Brockman, were married during World War II in January 1943. After John served his time in the Army, going into France on D-Day and fighting his way across Europe, he returned home in late 1945.

Upon his birth, as their first child, this baby boy was to be named David, after his great grandfather Dr. David Crawford Brockman.

John and Mary went on to have 3 more children: Tamara, Charles and Michelle, but they all never forgot the baby boy who was lost to them.
