Possible burial. His parents were charter members of the church and his mother was buried here just two years before Henry's death.

Son of Solomon Strickland and his wife Amy Pace.

He married 1787, Madison Co., NC (then Wilkes Co.) to Ruth Thompson, daughter of Anderson Thompson, Sr.

The book "Ancestors and Descendants" further noted that when Henry Strickland married Ruth Thompson, daughter of Alexander Thompson in 1787, she was disowned by her father. Apparently he eventually accepted the marriage, as he deeded Henry Strickland land in 1802."

"Strickland Scene - Elbert Co., Georgia - Deed Book N, p. 5: "This Indenture made. the twenty first day of June one Thousand Eight Hundred and Two, and in the twenty sixth year of the Independence of the United States of America Between Alexander Thompson Senr. of the-State of Georgia and County of Elbert-of the'- one', part, and Henry Strickland of -the County of Franklin and Stat,- aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the -Said Thompson for and in con- sideration of the sum of three Hundred and Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid to theSaid Thompson by the Said Strickland on or before the Sealina and delivering of these presents the recept he doth hereby acknowledge, Hath bargained Sold and De- livered in fee simple all that Tract of land Containing four hundred and four acresbeing a part of a.Tract of four Hundred and Eighty acres Surbeyed for him in the year Eighty Six on the twentieth of February, then Wilkes County, granted in the year Eighty Seven on the twenty Seventh of September, beginning on a Hickory thenceruning S. 80 E 75 ch. According to researcher Kenneth Landry Schaefer, the "Widow Stricklin" listed on the 1820 census was not Ruth, but
Elizabeth Gurley of Johnson Co., NC, daughter of Robert Gurley and widow of a Jeremiah Strickland, as shown by probate papers. It's likely then that Ruth was living with one of her children or other relative in 1820:

1820 census, St Helena, Louisiana

One female 10-15; b. 1805-1810

Perhaps this was land donated by Henry Strickland, Jr.?

"In the notes of Tony Pickett, he cites "Ancestors and Descendants of Robert Easley, Sr,., and Elizabeth Earle Elkins of St. Helena Parish, Louisiana" by Austin Beverly Smith, et al (1993). Page 6 indicates that Henry Strickland donated the first land to build a church in St. Helena Parish, now called the New Zion Baptist Church.

Ruth Thompson Strickland remarried 10 Apr 1823, Amite Co., Mississippi to Samuel Benjamin Bagley

Ruth died about 1860, Greensburg, St. Helena Parish, Louisiana.

Contributor: Janice J (48336262) provides:
"His [Ancil B. Strickland's] probate records in Madison (Thompson C Strickland / Cade D Strickland administrators), includes notes for medicine and medical assistance Feb 19 - Mar 4 1814. And an operation on Feb 24, 1814. Doctors were in Jasper and Morgan Co. Ancil was wounded and is part of the list of killed and wounded in the action of the morning of 27th January 1814. 1st Regiment of Infantry - Capt. Ware's company - Lieut. A. B. Strickland, wounded dangerously. Article was written by John Floyd from Camp Defiance, 48 miles west of Chatahochie. Jan. 27, 1814. This was Creek Lands at the time, and the battle in January 1814 is now near Macon & Russell Co's Alabama. His estate also paid taxes for 1813/1814. The probate lists his personal property which was sold in Nov 1814, assuming so no other county listed, it was all in Madison Co. So he probably died in Creek lands, but most definitely not Amite Co Miss., although he could have been returned to Madison, or one of the two counties where the Dr's provided medical service (Jasper/Morgan).
