John Ellsworth Burns, 84, of Ironton, died Friday at the Lawrence County Medical Center.
He was born Dec 8, 1905 in Ironton, the son of the late George and Adeline Burns.
He lived his entire life in the Ironton area.
He was a member of the Grange Freewill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Union Carpenters, Local 472.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosalie Burns Potter, his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Georgie Davidson Burns, whom he married in 1929; three sons, John Burns of Franklin Furnace, Paul Burns of Ironton and Ronald Burns of Kitts Hill; on sister, Esta Davidson of Ironton; one brother, Denver Burns of Ironton; 13 grandchildren; one brother-in-law, William Willis of Springfield.
The graveside service is Monday, 1pm at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Jarvis Wilds officiating.
