GEORGE W. BURNS

George Washington Burns, 93, died Tuesday at 3 pm at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George Davidson of Route 3.

Mr. Burns, a retired blacksmith, was born in Beach Fork, W.Va., a son of the late John A. and Mary Massie Burns. He was educated in Beach Fork and Wayne, W.Va. schools and had resided in Lawrence County for the past 71 years.

He retired in 1953 and was employed with the New York Coal Sales at Superior for 28 years.

The Spanish American War veteran was a member of LaGrange Freewill Baptist Church. He assisted in the organization of the church and served as deacon for 30 years.

In 1902 he was united in marriage in Ironton to Adeline Crabtree Burns, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are eight children; Mrs. Nellie Davidson, John E. Burns, Mrs. Dolly Jones, Mrs. George (Esta) Davidson and Denver Burns, all of Route 3, Mrs. Bertha Willis of Springfield, Robert F. Burns of Chuluota, Fla. and Mrs. Martha O'Brien of Ironton; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; a half sister, Laura Ellen Burns of Huntington. A son, William Henry Burns, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 10 am Saturday at LaGrange Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Evans and Rev. Jarvis Wilds officiating. Burial will be in the LaGrange Cemetery. Friends will be received at Baker Funeral Home from 5-9pm Friday.
