Info. from Findagrave member, Cherie Officer and The Evening Tribune, 27 January 2012. Ken, passed away at his home on main St. in Canisteo, after a brief illness. On 7 June 1947 in Obi, NY he married Lida M. Frost, who survives him. He was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Bixby and Pauline Merrick and two brothers Arnold and Leonard Bixby. Ken was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1941-45 in the Second Armored Division (Hell on Wheels) under Generals Omar Bradley and George S. Patton. He served for five years in the European and African Campaigns receiving two Bronze Stars. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy. He was a heavy equipment operator for National Fuel Gas Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He had attended the Hornell Christian Missionary Alliance Church for over fifty years and loved to garden, tend to his lawn and watching birds at his feeder. In addition to his devoted wife Lida, he was survived by two sons, Michael (Patricia) Bixby and Larry (Priscilla) Bixby, all of Canisteo: One daughter, Susan Cole of Canisteo, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, along with a sister, Eleanor Wakefield of Angelica and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held, with Military Honors, at the H.P. Smith and Son Funeral Home in Canisteo on 30 January 2012.
