Little Child Drowned at Play.
Thursday afternoon while at play with Frances Casey, Doris Bixby, the three and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Bixby of Clarksville, fell into a brook near the house and was drowned.
How the accident occurred is not exactly known, but the little ones had a tree tapped on the opposite side of the creek and it is thought they went across to see how the sap was running. Doris either fell off the plank or was seated on the edge of the bank and either fell in or the bank caved off, throwing the little one into the rapid current of the stream.
In spite of the aid of the Casey girl and pet dog, Doris was unable to get out of the current and when her mother arrived on the scene, the child was no where to be found. About fifteen minutes after, she was found caught on a gas pipe by the bridge. All efforts to resuscitate the child were futile.
Mr. and Mrs. Bixby have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
