Rev. Clarence Richard Gilbert, Sr., 82, of Inman died September 27, 2012. He was son of the late Squire Parker and Leila Turner Gilbert and husband of Mary Ellen Anderson Gilbert.
He was retired from the US Postal Service and was a lay minister and missionary. He was one of the founding members of Carpenters for Christ in South Carolina. He was a charter member of Rock Hill Baptist Church of Inman and served at home and abroad as a missionary.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by two sons, Tony Edward Gilbert and Clarence R. Gilbert, Jr.; two daughters, Linda Kaye McAbee (Steve) and Kathy Faye Nicholls (Chris); a sister, Grace Ledbetter; seven grandchildren, Amanda McAbee Thompson, Jeremy Richard Gilbert, Kimberly McAbee Horton, Tyler Steven McAbee, Morgan Danielle Gilbert, Christopher Jae "CJ" Nicholls and Anderson Clay Nicholls; a great grandchild, Ella Reese Thompson; and a special sister in law Rachel Anderson Painter.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Leila Ann Gilbert; brothers, Pinckney, Leroy, Harvey and John Gilbert; and sisters, Velda Blanton, Nellie Banks, Bessie Blackwell and Leona Pace.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Rock Hill Baptist Church of Inman, Bishop Road from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 2:00pm at Holston Creek Baptist Church, Inman conducted by Rev. Heyward Calvert, Rev. Bryan Alverson and Rev. Mike Ravan. Burial will be in Lake Bowen Baptist Church Cemetery, Edwards Road, Inman.
