Jefferson is the son of James McIndoo and Sarah Mounts. He married Sarah Elizabeth Robertson and had the following known children: Herny, Lydia, and William.

Civil War Record---Jefferson McIndoo of Freedom was mustered in as a Pvt. on Sept 20, 1861, in Co "B" 31st Reg Ind Vols Inf for 3 years. He was discharged Jan 15, 1863 for disability. He enlisted as Corpl. in July 17, 1863 in Co "G" 115Reg Ind Vols Inf for 6 months and was mustered out Feb 25, 1864 as a Sergeant. In his third enlistment he was mustered in as a Pvt Feb 1, 1865 in Co "I" 148 Reg IN Vols Inf for 1 year and was mustered out Sept 5, 1865 as a Sergeant. He was in the service a total of 2 years 6 months and 17 days. He was twice called McEndoo. Description: Age 18, height 5' 5", complexion light, eyes blue, hair light, farmer. In his first enlistment he was honorably discharged at Bowling Green, KY, by order of Gen Manson. In battle of Fort Donelson, TN, Feb 14, 1862. He was run over and badly injured in teh right hip and continued to be unfit for hard duty to the date of his discharge. He died Aug 22, 1872 as a result of this injury and was never pensioned.
