About 1839, James, Sarah, and their baby John migrated to Owen Co, IN and first settled near Spencer and by 1840 lived on a farm near Freedom, IN. The 1860 census says that James McIndoo had real estate valued at $5,000 and personal property at $800. The names of the parents and nine children follow: James, Sarah, Thomas, Jacob, Jefferson, Delilah, James, Mary, Margaret, Benjamin, and Sarah. This record included all the children except the following: John was married; Henry went west to about Kansas City where he was killed by a pile driver while working on the railroad at the age of about 30; and Charles was born in 1853, and died in 1855. This was the first death and first burial in the McIndoo Cemetery on their farm at Freedom.
