Hiram was the son of Phineas P. Pooler and Sybil Wheeler, and was married to Isabelle McFarland. They had 11 children: James, Charles, Robert, Marshall, Mary, Fidelia, Clarissa, Hiram, Lois, "George" and Nellie.
