Hiram Pooler was the man contracted by the New York and Erie Railroad Company to provide the tons of Ashlar Bluestone, hauled to the site from nearby quarries, for construction of the Starrucca Viaduct at Lanesboro, PA. The viaduct's construction spanned two years, 1847 and 1848.

Hiram was the son of Phineas P. Pooler and Sybil Wheeler, and was married to Isabelle McFarland. They had 11 children: James, Charles, Robert, Marshall, Mary, Fidelia, Clarissa, Hiram, Leis, George and Nellie.
