At age 11, Wendell arrived at Boston, Massachusetts with his family on the Windemere. He arrived with father Nicholas, mother Catherine (Leist), brothers Johann, Peter, and Jacob, and Jacob's wife Anne. Also listed was Peter Leist.
The family settled in Wellsville, Allegany, NY. There he met and married his wife Mary Geltz. Census records show they began a family and lived first with her family, then next door to her parents. They relocated to Correy, PA between 1880 and 1900.
