" THE DOINGS OF DEATH
Mr. Jacob Theobald Guided Away
Yesterday morning death claimed another victim, Mr. Jacob Theobald, brother of John and Peter Theobald, of this city, breathed his last at 11 a.m. at his residence, Theobald's Hotel (formerly Bateman House), at the depot. The deceased gentleman was seen on the street at an early hour in the forenoon, and at 9 o'clock he went into the kitchen of his house and complained of chills. He was taken to bed and expired in about two hours. Mr. Theobald has been in a sickly condition for a long time, but so sudden a death was hardly anticipated by his friends. It was thought that he had been suffering from internal tumors, and in the afternoon a post-mortem examination was held by Drs. Damgan, Varian, Barr and Littlefield, when it was found that the vital organs of deceased were in a diseased and displaced condition, the liver being of an enormous size and weighed ten pounds two ounces. The doctors think it a marvel that he lived so long as he did. Mr. Theobald was a member of the Maennerchor and the Harugari, both of which societies will attend the funeral tomorrow. He was also a member of the Common Council and an Assessor in the Fourth ward. He was born in Prussia in 1824, and came to this country in 1849. For eleven years he has made his home in Titusville, having been successively proprietor of the City Hotel, the Spiesman House, the Hepburn House and finally the one in which he died. He leaves a wife but no children. Much sympathy is felt for the afflicted lady, who feels her lonely position very acutely."
