Ole Johnson, Jr. a lifetime resident of Latah County, died March 25, in Lewiston, from complications due to a fall. Ole was 77. Ole was born June 13, 1930 in Troy, to Ole K. and Bertha (Pudwill) Johnson.

Ole was known by many as Junior. Ole had a varied employment history. (Stubbs Seed Company, Bohmans Building Supply, Troy Dairy Products, Korter Dairy Products, Idaho Machine and Sheet Metal, Commercial Builders, Custom Combining, Konen Construction)

He managed Palouse Empire Concrete (1966) that eventually became Ace Concrete Company (1970.) In 1971, he started his own trucking and excavating business, Johnson Trucking Service, Inc., in conjunction with Crystal Sand Company. Evidence of his work can be seen throughout the Palouse area.

He was instrumental in getting a traffic light at the intersection of the Troy Highway and US 95, the construction of the Palouse Mall, and many projects on the University of Idaho campus including the Kibbie Dome.

Many roads and homes in the area also were excavated by Ole. After retirement in 1998, he continued to work off and on for his son, Tony, transporting cars for C & T Used Cars and Karl Tyler Motors. Transporting cars allowed Ole to see many parts of the country and to occasionally surprise his daughter Deb and family in Colorado with a visit as well as to meet his new twin great granddaughters in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Ole had a passion for country music and played the steel guitar. In the early 60's he formed a band called the Four Swedes and they played many area venues. Just last year the members of the band re-united for a jam session. In the '80s Ole, with his cousin Clarence Johnson and friend Ed Dawson, formed a trio called the 3 Sons and played at churches and community gatherings.

Ole spent many long hours tending to his orchard and sharing the fruits with neighbors and friends. Recently, Ole began tinkering with woodworking and would surprise everyone with his handiwork now and then.

Ole married Marilyn (Reierson), June 10, 1951, in Troy. In 1952 his daughter Terry was born. In 1954 along came Deb and in 1955 son Tony was born. In 1971 Ole's third daughter Tina was born.

Ole is survived by his wife Marilyn of Moscow; daughters Terry and husband Robert Huhta of Moscow, Deb and husband Randy Meaker; grandchildren Erin Porteous and husband Ross, Cory Meaker and wife Sherry all from Montrose, Colo.; son Tony and wife Debi Johnson of Viola; grandchildren TJ and wife Ali and their children, Kaden, Carson, Ella, and Adalyn Johnson of Scottsdale Ariz.; grandson Jeff and wife Kim Carlson of Moscow; grandson Robby Johnson of Moscow; daughter Tina and husband Greg Zweigle, grandchildren Taylor and Kelsey of Pullman.

Ole was preceded in death by his father Ole K., mother Bertha, step-mother Tillie, sister Viola Wedin, sister Vera Johnson, sister Lorraine Vissar, sister Virginia Bugh, brother Bertil Johnson, stepsisters and stepbrother.

Ole touched the lives of all that knew him. A practical joker and prankster. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at the Moscow Church of Nazarene at 10:30 a.m. March 29. Pastor Carlton Harvey will officiate and a reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are under the direction of Short's Funeral Chapel, Moscow.
