Bertil Eugene Johnson, 67, died Saturday, July 12, at his Lewiston home of a sudden heart attack.

Bertil was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Moscow to Ole and Bertha Pudwill Johnson Sr. He grew up on Little Bear Ridge near Troy, Idaho, and was raised by his father and stepmother, Tillie Johnson. Bertil attended school in Troy and graduated from Troy High School.

He was a Moscow Fire Department volunteer in his early years. Bertil's career path included carpentry, home remodeling, window, siding and specialty building throughout the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and the Moscow-Pullman area.

He married Charlotte Ackerman in 1955 and they were divorced in 1976. He married Roxina E. Adams in Coeur d'Alene in 1980.

His pride and joy was restoring his 1948 Chevrolet and later entering it in local shows, where he won many trophies. He also loved visiting with friends and family. Bertil was a joke teller and loved practical jokes. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Bertil is survived at home by his wife, Roxina, and their pet Yorkie, Charlie Brown; one brother, Ole Johnson Jr. of Moscow; his sons, Greg Johnson of Troy and Mark Johnson of Lewiston; daughters, Susan Johnson of Lethridge, Alberta, Canada, and Cindi Beplate of Deary; stepchildren, Lonnie Cox of Lewiston, Monica Simpson of Clarkston, Tim Cox of Kendrick, Kenny Cox of Moscow, Ted Cox of Clarkston, Joe Cox of Pullman and Toby Cox of Weippe; stepsisters, Beverly Inncoenti and Ruth Hasselstrom; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother, two infant brothers, four sisters, three stepsisters, one stepbrother and his granddaughter, baby Jessica Johnson.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Moscow Fire Department.
