Benjamin Robinson II is son of Benjamin Robinson I (b. abt. 1803, County Armagh, Northern Ireland; d. unknown) and Dorothy Ritchie/Richards (b. abt. 1804, County Armagh, Northern Ireland). All of the children we have confirmed records for were born by 1840 in County Armagh. It is likely that Benjamin and/or Dorothy either brought the family to Canada during the beginnings of the Great Famine (known outside of Ireland as the Irish Potato Famine, which was 1845-1851); or perished during the Famine and the older children fled to Canada. The two eldest brothers, Benjamin and Jonathan, now adults, appeared to have emigrated either before or during the Great Famine to Grey County, Ontario, Canada. They both appear in the first Canadian Census of 1851/52, and the Robinson brothers married about 1850 in Grey County to the Ball sisters, whose family had emigrated from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland about a decade earlier.
Benjamin and Jonathan's two (documented) sisters may have arrived later: Elizabeth first appears in 1861 for her marriage in Bentinck, Grey County; and sister Mary Jane Robinson appears in 1877 for her marriage in Owen Sound, Grey County.

Thus, Benjamin II was second of four children (possibly six; still researching). BENJAMIN ROBINSON (II) SIBLINGS:

1-JONATHAN ROBINSON (1824 – 1896) m. 1st to ELIZABETH BALL, sister of his brother Benjamin's wife ANN BALL, with whom he had 5 children. After Elizabeth's 1859 death, he m. 2nd to MATILDA CHESNEY, with whom he had 9 children.

2-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1838 – after 1901) m. 1st to JAMES BURNS; they had 8 children. After James' 1881 death, she m. 2nd to EDWARD F. LANDER; no children.

3-MARY JANE ROBINSON (1840 – after 1885) m. 1st to DAVID NELSON; m. 2nd to JOHN O'BRIEN. Children unknown. Appears she stayed in Owen Sound area of Grey County, Ontario, Canada.

MARRIAGE #1-Benjamin married 1st about 1850/51 in Grey County, Ontario, Canada (still researching) to ANN/ANNA J BALL (1833-abt. 1864). Together they had 9 children:

1-ANN JANE ROBINSON (1852 – 1862); died in childhood

2-BENJAMIN ROBINSON (1853 – 1922) m. AGNES GORDON, 2 ch.

3-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1854 – 1934) m. 1st to JAMES DICKEY, 4 ch; m. 2nd to JAMES KERR, 2 ch.

4-SARAH ROBINSON (1856 – 1934) m. 1st to JOHN A. HART, 3 ch.; m. 2nd to John's brother GEORGE HART, no ch.; m. 3rd to PATRICK GENTER/GINTER, no ch.

5-MARY ROBINSON (1859 – 1948); she outlived all her siblings by over 15 years; m. HENRY C BASCOM, 2 ch.; m. 2nd CASPER DIEHM; m. 3rd HENRY POWELL HOAG

6-JAMES WILSON ROBINSON (1861 – 1902) m. ELIZABETH ANN SANDBURNE/SANBURN, 8 ch.

7-SAMUEL ROBINSON (1862 – 1901) m. ADAH L. QUANTZ (4 ch.); after his death, Adah married 2nd to Edward B Williams, 4 ch. Some of the Robinson children used their stepfather's last name of Williams.

8-ELIZABETH ROBINSON (1863 – 1931) m. FRED W. LILLY, no ch.

9-DAVID WILLIAM ROBINSON (1864 – 1916) m. EMMA BERTHA QUADE, 4 ch.

MARRIAGE #2-Benjamin had two children with Agnes Ann Carleton Banks, whom he married 20 Nov 1865 in Normanby, Grey, Ontario, Canada:

1-JONATHAN ROBINSON (c. 1868-1879)
2-AGNES ROBINSON (1871-1879)

These two young children, age 11 and 8, d. of diptheria within 6 days of each other (Agnes d. 10 Jul 1879, Jonathan d. 16 Jul 1879). Based on later events in Agnes Ann' life documented by the newspaper articles, it is likely this trauma caused a great deal of distress in her life from which she may not have fully recovered.
