John Wilson passed away at his home, Thursday morning, August 2, 1934, at 1 o'clock, from ailments incident to old age. Mr. Wilson took suddenly ill the Thursday before and his suffering was intense until the end came. Medical aid was given and loving hands labored unceasingly to relieve his suffering and make him as comfortable as possible.

Mr. Wilson was born in Carthage, Ill., July 18, 1852. He spent his boyhood days there, coming to southern Kansas in 1872. He was married in 1886 to Miss Grace Arnett, at Galesburg, Kans. They lived in Atchison county forty years, twenty-two years of that time on farms in this vicinity. Eighteen years ago they moved to Effingham and this has since been their home.

Surviving the deceased beside his widow are four children, Mrs. Mae Bishop, Mrs. Vera Cooper, Mrs. Alice Happel, all of Effingham; Elmer Wilson of Kansas City. A son Howard passed away twenty-three years ago at the age of seventeen. Thirteen grand children and a great grandchild also survive. The grand children are Frank Bishop, Ft. Scott; Mrs. Mildred Giles, Philippines; Le Roy, Marvin and Johnnie Bishop; Howard, Donald, Dorothy, Alice Marie Cooper; Dale and Charles Happel, all of Effingham; Clyde and LaVerne Wilson, of Kansas City. The great grandchild is Wm Stacey, Jr., two year old son of Sgt. and Mrs. Wm Giles, of the Philippines. Two nephews survive Mr. Wilson, one lives in Oregon and one in California. Mr. Wilson is the last member of a family of seven children to pass away.
