Bud moved to western Oklahoma, living south of Cheyenne, with his family shortly after the birth of his first son in 1919. Bud, Emily, and the 3 oldest children moved back to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1929 so Bud could go to work as a streetcar driver. Two more sons and a daughter were born, unfortunately the youngest 2 sons died within a few months of one another. After parking one of the last streetcars in 1929, Bud moved his family back to the Roger Mills area, settling in the Herring Community, where the final child was born. They farmed there until 1955 when they moved to Elk City, Oklahoma, where he worked for the Watkins Flower Shop and Armor's Produce.
