OBITUARY
JAMES CARLE
James Carle, an old-time resident of this city and township, lately of Council Bluffs, died at the State Hospital for the Insane in Clarinda on Saturday, October 10, 1908, aged 49 years and 5 months. Death resulted from softening of the brain, the affliction extending over a period of about three years before death brought relief.
James Carle was born in Knoxville township in the year 1859; son of Eber and Margaret Carle, old settlers of this vicinity. In the year 1884 he was united in marriage with Miss Melissa Derry, who with their four children, three sons and one daughter, still survive.
The family removed to the western part of the state several years ago, later to Council Bluffs. His health failed in 1905, however, he remained with the family until August 8th the present year when it was thought advisable to remove him to Clarinda for treatment. During the last weeks in Council Bluffs he was very violent at times and several men were required to assist the widow and children in taking care of the patient.
The remains were brought to Knoxville last Sunday over the road from Clarinda via Albia and taken to the Froggatt & Roberts undertaking establishment. Funeral from that place at 4 o'clock Monday after noon. Short services at the grave by Rev------. Internment in North cemetery.
