FIVE GENERATIONS LIVING IN COUNCIL BLUFFS FAMILY

Seventy Direct Descendants of Mrs. Marguerite Carle, Who is a Busy Woman at 82.

Eighty-two years of age and over seventy descendants of five generations now living.

That in brief is the story of the life of Mrs. Marguerite Carle, a cheerful and active octogenarian, who resides with her granddaughter, Mrs. Maryetta Collins, at __ Benton street, Council Bluffs, Mrs. Collins
is herself a grandmother, making five generation --mother, daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter and great-great granddaughter-- all alive and enjoying the best of health.

Yes, Mrs. Carle was at home, and would see the reporter. But she proved to be somewhat busy that particular afternoon, as she and he great granddaughter were busily engaged side by side in tying a comforter. She very graciously left her work at times, however, to assist her granddaughter, Mrs. Collins, in unraveling the threads of the somewhat tangled skein of facts regarding the family of "Aunt Ann" or "Uncle Jim" or relating some incident connected with a branch of the family located in Oklahoma.

It was, in fact, due in large measure to information furnished by Mrs .Carle herself that it was finally figured up that in all the various branches of the family she now has no less than thirty grandchildren alive, in addition to her six living children, and that these grandchildren have in turn presented her with thirty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Carle is a native of Richmond, Va., where she was born eighty-two years ago-- during the administration of James Monroe as president of the United States. She was married at 17, and her oldest daughter, the mother of Mrs. Collins of Council Bluffs, died a number of years ago. Before her death, however, she gave birth to five sons and a daughter, the latter being Mrs. Collins.

Mrs. Carle was married twice, first a Mr. Pope and later to Mr. Carle. She had six sons and three daughters of whom six children are still alive--four being man and two women.

Among the daughters of the aged woman the nearest here is Mrs. Anna Baty, now residing at Knoxville, Marion county, Iowa. Like her mother, Mrs. Baty has been very Rooseveltian in the size of her family, having seven sons and four daughters, although she is now only about 45 years of age.

For a number of years Mrs. Carle has made her home with her grandson-in-law, W. A. Collins, and his family, who reside at 351 Benton Street, Council Bluffs. Mrs. Collins, her granddaughter, and herself a grandmother, is about 46 years of age, her mother, like her grandmother, having married at an early age.

She was herself married young, for that matter, and her oldest daughter, Mrs. Ida Vossler of C arson, Pottawattamie county, is now 27 years of age. She has another daughter of her large family who is still at home who is 24. Little Mary Louisa Vossler, the daughter of Mrs. Vossler - the great-great granddaughter of Mrs. Carle- was 4 years of age last August, and is as pretty a child as is often seen.
