PALCHAK BERNADETTE SULLIVAN
Age 88, of Grove City, formerly of Trafford, died Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer. Bernadette was born on February 20, 1924 in Turtle Creek, the daughter of the late John A. and Clara Schmidt Sullivan. Bernadette attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from John Hopkins University School of Nursing. She also graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania School of Education. Prior to retirement, Bernadette was a Registered Nurse and worked for the Burrell School District, the City of Pittsburgh Schools, the former Columbia Hospital and the Red Cross. She was a member of the St. Regis Church Trafford and its former Altar Rosary Society. She was a member and served as President of the Level Green Sr. Citizens and a member of the Young At Heart. She was a member of the John Hopkins Alumni Association, the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority at the Univ. of Pittsburgh and served as President and a member of the School Nurses Association of Westmoreland County. Bernadette is survived by her children, Joseph P., Jr. and wife Carolyn of Marshall, MI, Greg E. and wife Elaine of McCandless Twp., John K. and wife Luina of Menlo Park CA, Russell B. and wife Jennifer of Granite Bay, CA, Marianne Kostiha and husband Dave of Chardon, OH, and Kathleen Claire Orr and husband Jeff of Grove City PA; 13 grandchildren, Mark, Daniel, Melissa, Elizabeth (Doug Connelly), Maureen (Doug Meffley), David, Kristen and Andrew Palchak, Sarah Kostiha, Tony (Angie) Campagna and Angela Campagna, Brandon Alpert, and John Patrick Palchak and her great-grandchild, Giovanni Campagna. Bernadette was preceded in death by her husband Joseph P. Palchak, Sr. in 2007; two brothers, James and Paul Sullivan and a sister, Marie Carrara. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 702 7th Street (Rt.130), Trafford, 412-372-3111 . Parting prayers will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Regis Church Trafford with Fr. David Nazimek as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. Memorial donations can be made to the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, 745 Greenville Rd., Mercer PA 16137.
