Age 85 of Level Green and Trafford area died on Friday, March 23, 2007 in the HealthSouth Hospital, Monroeville. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Bernadette Sullivan Palchak. He was born on March 11, 1922 in Rankin the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Olenik Palchak. Joe was retired from the Westinghouse, E. Pittsburgh as a Quality Control Supervisor and was a member of its Foreman's Association. He was a graduate of the Westinghouse Apprenticeship Program and Westinghouse Technical Night School in Electrical Engineering. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and received the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action in Germany. Joe also was a member of the St. Regis Church, Trafford, the Trafford American Legion Post #331, the Level Green Sr. Citizens and St. Barbara Young at Heart Club, Norwin Elks and was a graduate of Trafford High School. Joe served as the Secretary of the Trafford School Board and Vice President of the Penn-Trafford School Board. Because of his firm belief in education he was instrumental in the formation of the merger now known as the Penn-Trafford School District. In addition to his wife Joe is survived by his children Joseph P., Jr. and wife Carolyn of Marshall MI, Greg E. and wife Elaine of McClandess Twp., John K. of Los Angeles, CA, and Russell B. and fiancée Jennifer of Fairbanks, CA, Marianne Kostiha and husband Dave of Chardon, OH, and Kathleen Claire Orr and husband Jeff of Grove City PA and 11 grandchildren; Mark, Daniel, Melissa, Elizabeth, Maureen, David, Kristen and Andrew Palchak, Sarah Kostiha, Tony and Angela Campagna. In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, William and Edward Palchak, Margaret Miller, Betty Bernath and Josephine Subasic. Family and friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Sunday and 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Monday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 602 7th St. (Rt. 130) Trafford 412-372-3111. Parting prayers will be at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM in the St. Regis Church Trafford with the Rev. James D. Tringhese. Interment with military honors will follow in the New Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Regis Church Development Fund, 517 Homewood Ave., Trafford PA 15085.
