Clyde Lee Hatcher Sr., age 90, of Beckley, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.
Born on March 7, 1921, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Albert Alexander Hatcher and Arminta Mae Pack Hatcher.
Mr. Hatcher was a 1940 Graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and was a retired supervisor for the Coal Lab of Pittston Coal Company. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, and was a WWII Veteran of the Army-Air Corps.
Mr. Hatcher was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Theo, Hobert, Earl, James, Oliver, Donnie, Buster, Orville Rae, Dorothy "Dot" Lipscomb, Maude Gunter, Kata Maples, Clarice Lowe, and Ruth Hatcher.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Iva Vest Hatcher; a daughter Connie Elliott and her husband Doug of Daniels; a son Clyde Hatcher Jr. of Fayetteville, a grandson, Michael Elliott and his wife Dawn of St. Albans; two great-grandsons, Camden Robert Elliott of Charleston, and Nathaniel "Nate" Elliott of St. Albans. Special friend Teresa Arthur, and special friend and Co-worker Jewell Wood, and caregiver Johanna Stover.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. S. Thomas, the Hidden Valley Rehabilitation Center, the Heartland Nursing Home, and to Raleigh General Hospital.
Funeral services to Celebrate the Life of Clyde Lee Hatcher Sr. will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 1 p.m. with Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
