James A. Hatcher, 84, of 118 Elkins St., Beckley, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 27, 1918, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Albert and Arminta Pack Hatcher.
Mr. Hatcher was a retired mechanic for Mallamar GMC for 42 years. He was a member of the Callaway Heights Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was a lifelong Beckley resident.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ethyle Huffman; sisters, Maude Gunter, Clarice Lowe, Ruth Hatcher, Kata Mae Maples; brothers, Theo, Earl, Hobert, Oliver, Orville Ray, Robert Buster, and Donald Hatcher.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Viola Johnson Hatcher; a son, James, four grandsons whom he reared,one granddaughter, one brother, Clyde Lee, one sister, Doris, 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be at the Callaway Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
