Maxine Glover Howland, aka "Freckles," passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Saturday, July 6, 2002 in Salt Lake City. She was born March 30, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Clara Glover in Midvale, UT (the youngest of 10 children). She grew up in Fort Union, graduated from Jordan High School in 1948 and always yelled "go Beet-diggers." She married the "Kansas City Kid" L. Kay Howland March 22, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She worked side by side with her husband for 26 years in their family owned business, KMH Foodmart. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a caring grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was spent serving others. She loved to make hand crafted gifts for her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook (best pumpkin pie maker ever). She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions herself, but loved most to support her husband in his many church responsibilities. Her happiest moments were serving others. Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was truly a peacemaker. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God". She truly was a valiant daughter of God. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold Glover, Melvin Glov-er; and sisters, Elva Evans, Martha Glover, Jennie Glover. Survived by husband; seven children, Stephen (Deby) Howland, Pamela (Rod) Tibbitts, Gary Howland, Carla Bruin, Kay (Rebecca) Howland, Dana Howland, Lori (Steve) King; foster daughter, Ellouise; 29 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (on the way, one grandson, two great-grandsons); former daughter-in-law, Laurie; former son-in-law, Kent Bruin; one brother and three sisters, Calvin (Barbara) Glover, Faye (Lamar) Petersen, Donna Watson, Alta Lyon; many nieces and nephews. Services will be Wed. July 10, 2002, 12 noon, South Cottonwood 3rd Ward Chapel, 981 E. Revere Circle (5600 S), Salt Lake City, UT. Viewing Tues. July 9, 2002, 6-8 p.m., Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State, Mur-ray, UT and one hour prior to the services. Interment, Murray City Cemetery, 5600 S. Vine St. The family would like to thank Dr. Patricia Legant, her staff, and the CNS hospice nurses and aides that provided wonderful care.
