Anne Buchmann

Never in the history of The Times has it been called on to record so many sudden deaths as appeared in its columns the past few weeks. Sickness and suffering of a patient serve, in a measure, to prepare relatives for the death of loved ones in the family but the sorrow is deeper and harder to bear when death is sudden and unexpected as was that of Mrs. John Buchmann, who was found dead in her home on Madison street on Friday evening July 13th, no one being with her or knowing the hour when she was called. Mrs. Buchmann's trouble was hardening of the arteries from which she had suffered for the past years though she was not confined to her bed and did her usual work during that time. Shortly after one o'clock, Monday, Mr. Buchmann, day policemen of our city, left home for his work and at that time his wife was in her usual health. About four o'clock Jos. Reinkober, who is in charge of Koller & Son's delivery truck, called at the Buchmann home with some groceries and was met at the door by Mrs. Buchmann and while in conversation with him she remarked that she did not feel very well. Mr. Reinkober was probably the last person who saw her alive, for when Mr. Buchmann returned home he found her lying on the bed dressed and lifeless. The neighbors were notified and a physician called, but it was plainly evident that nothing could be done to restore her. Death was due to heart failure.
Anna Boll, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Boll, was born in Russell, Sheboygan County, March 12, 1859, and moved when a child with her parents to East Brothertown. She learned the dressmaking and millinery trade and established a business on Main street in this city and later opened a confectionery and grocery store which she conducted for years. On October 6, 1891, she was married to John Buchmann who purchased the property and took over the business. In 1892 they had the misfortune of losing their property by fire but they rebuilt the establishment, now known as the Lauer & Parker place and conducted business there until 1902 when they sold out and moved to Elkhart Lake. Later they located at Hinzeville which place they made their home for two years and then returned to Elkhart Lake. Nine years ago they traded their property at Elkhart Lake and moved onto the farm in Chilton town now owned by Jos. Nennig. Seven years ago they sold their farm and returned to his city which place has since been their home.
She was the mother of three children, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Hoffmann of White Lake, Miss Loretta, and a son, Melvin at home, all of whom with the husband mourn the death of a good wife and mother. She is also survived by a brother, Anton Boll of Wahpeton, N.C., and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. Ester and Mrs. F. J. Egerer of this city and Mrs. George Kreidler of Duluth, Minn., all of whom were present at the funeral which was held at St. Mary's Church, Rev. Fr. L. N. Thelen celebrated Requiem Mass.
