Mrs. Fred Bach passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Laura Smith, Wednesday March 17, 1926 at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 10 days. Death was due to infirmities of old age. Bertha Zabel Bach was born in West Prussia, Germany, October 6, 1848 and was a daughter of Frederick and Julia Detman Zabel. She came to this country at the age of sixteen years. Her father passed away in Germany and her widowed mother, brother, and sisters followed her to this country a short time afterward. She was married to Fred Bach, July 1, 1867. Following their marriage they resided on a farm in Edford township later purchasing a farm in Osco township where they resided until retiring and moving to this city about twenty-four years ago. To the union seven children were born. Three children beside the father preceded her in death. Her husband passed away December 30, 1925, three daughters, Mary died at the age of 20 and Carrie died when six months old and Mrs. Anna Wagle passed away two years ago. Surviving are two son's, Theo Back and Fred Bach of Osco township, two daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmoll and Mrs. Minnie Miller of this city. Also four grandchildren. Deceased was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical church and was always deeply interested in all that pertained to its growth and progress. Funeral services will be held at the Bach home on South Center street, Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Hosto of St. Peter's church, officiating. The remains will be laid to rest beside her husband in Morristown cemetery.
