Henry A. Van Roekel was born May 10, 1918 to Henry & Allie (VanderPloeg) Van Roekel in Sioux Center, Iowa and was raised on a farm west of Sioux Center.

On December 5, 1945 he was united in marriage to Alice Franken at her parents home in rural Sioux Center. Henry and Alice lived and farmed west of Sioux Center where many of Henry's hours were also spent riding horseback with neighbors and the saddle club. In 1968 the family moved into Sioux Center where Henry was employed at Sioux Preme Pack for over 15 years.

After retirement he enjoyed work at various places including Schuiteman Farms, Sioux Automation, Ken Hulstein Farm and Jesco.

He always enjoyed riding his motorcycle but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially watching them participate in sporting events.

Henry entered the Sioux Center Nursing Home in December, 2000 where he received very compassionate and loving care.

Henry was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center for his entire life.

Survivors include his children, Conrad and Pat Van Roekel of Sioux Center; Ila and Dave Harskamp of Sioux Center; Claryce and Mark Schuiteman of Sioux Center; Loren and Sharon Van Roekel of Fountain Valley, CA; and Mark and Lisa Van Roekel of Sioux Center. Grandchildren, Sherri and Daron Van Beek; Scott and Jennifer Van Roekel; Shantelle and Greg Bleeker, Tim Harskamp, Tom and Dana Harskamp; Corey, Craig and Chad Schuiteman; Alex Van Roekel; Brody, Nicholas, Joshua and Marisa Van Roekel. Great Grandchildren, Brooke, Lauren and Dayle Bleeker and Carson Van Beek. Sisters, Cynthia and Henry Van Regenmorter, Harriet Meendering and Ellen Van Roekel. In-laws Grace Van Roekel, Aldine Van Roekel, Evert and Gert Franken, Gerrit and Louise Hulstein, John A. Franken and Joel and Arlene Bensema.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in April, 1999; his parents, and brothers Neal, Garret, lony, and John; his sisters Tena Sneller, Fannie sneller, Carrie Franken and Fannie Van Roekel (1916).
