Garret H. Van Roekel passed away early Monday morning in Sioux Center at the age of ninety-one years.
He was born on March 22, 1908, in Sioux Center to Henry C. and Allie (Vander Ploeg) Van Roekel.
On September 30, 1930, in Sioux Center, he married Johanna Brantsen. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1979.
They farmed until 1961, when they moved into Sioux Center and he worked as a mason for Rens Construction. After his retirement he was the caretaker of Central Park in Sioux Center. He was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church.
Left to cherish his memory are three children and their spouses: Maria and Gene Moss of Sioux Center; Glenda and Marvin Fedders of LeMars; Lyle and Diane Van Roekel of Sioux Center; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Neal and Henry Van Roekel of Sioux Center; and six sisters: Fannie Sneller of Clarkfieid, Minnesota; Tena Sneller; Carrie Franken; Cynthia, Mrs. Henry Van Regenmorter; Harriet Meendering; and Ellen Van Roekel, all of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Tony and John; and one sister, Fannie, in 1915.
