Ellen Lorene Van Roekel was born November 30, 1928 to Henry C. and Allie (Vander Ploeg) Van Roekel on the family farm west of Sioux Center. She received her education through the 8th grade at country school west of Sioux Center and went to high school at Sioux Center Community School, graduating in 1946.
Ellen lived at Sioux Center her entire life. She worked at TePaske & Evans Law Office and Wesselink Insurance as a secretary for 50 years. Ellen was a caretaker at heart, caring for several family members and friends when they were ill, accompanying them to doctor's appointments and tending to their other needs.
She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center her entire life. Ellen was active and involved in many church and community activities. She volunteered throughout the community and church. She loved to travel with a cousin and friends.
Ellen is survived by a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to Ellen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses, Neal (Dena) Van Roekel, Fannie Van Roekel (died at age 10), Garret (Jo) Van Roekel, Tena (Henry) Sneller, Carrie (Gerrit) Franken, Tony (Grace) Van Roekel, John (Aldine) Van Roekel, Henry (Alice) Van Roekel, Fannie (Ed) Sneller and Cynthia (Henry) Van Regenmorter and Harriet and Al G. Meendering.
