Sister Rose Blum, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 82, died Thursday, January 23, 1997 at Villa St. Joseph.
Sister Rose was born to Benedict J. and Anna Marie (Schwarte) Blum on January 14, 1915 in Westphalia, Iowa. Entering the teaching profession, she served as an elementary teacher for over 30 years in Iowa, Idaho and Wisconsin. She retired to St. Rose Convent in 1982 and to Villa St. Joseph in 1988.
Sister Rose is survived by her Franciscan community, including her niece, Sister Kathleen Kenkel, FSPA of La Crosse; a sister, Ms Marie Blum, a brother, Vincent and (Mary Ann) Blum, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Laurina Blum, all of Harlan, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, including Reverend Benedict Kenkel of Guthrie Center, Iowa. Sister Joyce Blum, FSPA, of Coolidge, Arizona, Sister Elaine Schoemann, FSPA, of La Crosse, and Sister Mary Schoemann, FSPA, of El Paso, Texas, are second cousins. Sister Rose was preceded in death by 11 siblings, including Sister Hermanita Blum, FSPA (d. 1969), Sister Marie Ann Blum, FSPA (d. 1985), Sister Georgiana Blum, FSPA (d. 1996) and Brother George Blum, SJ.
Friends may call Saturday, January 25 after 9 a.m. at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse, for a prayer service.
Reverend Thomas O'Neill, Viterbo College Chaplain, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
