Gertrude M. Grothmann, Hillsboro, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Hillsboro Medical Center Nursing Home at the age of 89.

Gertrude Marie Gesell was born on September 6, 1917 in Miltona, MN. She grew up in this area and received her education.

Gertrude was united in marriage to August F. Grothmann on December 1, 1945, and they had one son, Joel. August passed away in November of 1964.

In 1973, Gertrude was united in marriage to Carl Grothmann. They made their home in Grandin for many years where she was very active in her community. Gertrude served as secretary/treasurer for the Grandin Community Cemetery for over 25 years, held many offices at her church and took care of the flowers, worked as a cook/baker at a hotel, and was a life long member of the Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod. Gertrude has resided at the Hillsboro Nursing Home for the past two years.

Gertrude is survived by her son, Joel (Connie) Grothmann of Fargo, ND; three grandsons, Ross Grothmann, Adam Grothmann, and Marc (Anna) Grothmann; three great grandchildren, August, Emma, and Madelyn; her sisters, Violet (Arnold) Backhaus, Viola Freudenberg, and Vergene (Kenneth) Henning; and her brother, Lawrence Gesell. She is also survived by her sisters in law, Lucille Gesell and Irene Gesell; her brother in law, Kermit Venzke; and many other very dear relatives and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, August; her husband, Carl; her sisters, Clara Venzke, and Ella (Robert) Betterman; and her brothers, Marvin Gesell and Sylvester Gesell.

VISITATION: 5:30 to 7:30 Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Wildeman Funeral Home in Hillsboro and also one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Thursday

PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Wednesday at Wildeman Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin
