Thelma L. Jones, 95, of Girard, died at 11:07 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2003, in the Intensive Care Unit at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute where she entered on Sunday. She was born March 2, 1908 at Walnut, Kan., a daughter of John and Jocinda (Hardin) Hays. She grew up and attended rural schools at Walnut.

She married Floyd Marion Jones on August 7, 1924 at Fort Scott, Kan. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1978. She worked in the cafeteria at the Hepler High School for 20 years before moving to Girard in 1954.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hepler.

Survivors include two grandsons, Charles and Carl Jones, two brothers, Ernest "Wayne" Hays, Pittsburg, Jewell "J.E." Hays, Bella Vista, Ark., and one sister, Norma Cox, of Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by one son, Edgar Jones, on June 28, 1994, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Darrell Biggs officiating. Burial was in the Hepler cemetery.
