Ernest Wayne Hays, 80, of Pittsburg, died at 9:55 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg.

He was born April 10, 1925, at Hepler, to John E. and Jocinda (Hardin) Hays.

On April 6, 1947, he married Elinor Ensley. She survives of the home.

He worked 27 years for the City of Pittsburg Water Department. He retired in 1988.

He was one of the founding members of the Countryside Christian Church, Pittsburg, former Deacon, member of the Prestige at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, Mo., P.A.T.H., Pittsburg, the Mended Hearts, and the Four State Christian Men's.

Survivors include five sons, David Hays of Yukon, Okla., Joseph Hays of Wichita, Paul Hays of Wichita, Stephen Hays of Wichita, and Phillip Hays of Oswego; three daughters, Marilyn Aikins of Independence, Mo., Diane Pinpin of Wichita, and Lois Hays of Aurora, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Hays, Arthur Hays, and Jewell Hays; four sisters, Elora Poe, Cecil Whiting, Norma Cox, and Thelma Jones; and one granddaughter, Sarah Victoria Pinpin.

Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Countryside Christian Church, Pittsburg, with Dan Muter, Minister, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hepler City Cemetery, Hepler.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m., prior to the service, at the Church.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m., today, at the Brenner Mortuary.

Arrangements are being handled by Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St., Pittsburg.
