Funeral services for V.D. "Deck" Romans, 99, of Hopkins County will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, at First Baptist Church of Cumby with the Rev. Dan Newman and Lynne Shofner officiating.

Interment will follow at Cumby Cemetery with Keith Rice, Alex Romans, T.J. Romans, David Newman, John Romans, Jonathan Shofner, Paul Shofner and Rob Lohrke serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be G.R. Romans, Willie Alvin Romans, Kenneth Romans and Travis Baxley.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Cumby Funeral Home.

V.D. "Deck" Romans died Tuesday night, July 3, 2012, at Carriage House Manor.

He was born in Hopkins County on Aug. 26, 1912, the son of George Washington Romans and Georgia Ann (Martin) Romans.

He married Vera Jane Sanderson in Cumby on Oct. 12, 1929. She preceded him in death in 2001.

Mr. Romans was retired from Rockwell International. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cumby.

Survivors include one daughter, Ima L. Walls and husband, Thurman, of Dallas; one son, V.D. Romans and wife, Gwen, of Cumby; one son-in-law, Dan Newman of Combine; two sisters, Estelle Baxley of Cumby and Marie Goodman of Rowlett; seven grandchildren, John Romans, Kimberly Kennedy, Lynne Shofner, David Newman, Deborah Lohrke, Keith Rice and Janet Rice; 12 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren;

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jeane Newman; one grandson, Danley Wayne Newman; four sisters, Vera Hall, Irene Davis, Odell Strickland and Edith Romans; and five brothers, Haskell Romans, Babe Romans, G.W. Romans, C.W. Romans and Pete Romans.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cumby.
