G W Romans, 93, of Greenville passed in the early evening hours of Sept. 10, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Romans was born on January 11, 1916, in Cumby to George Washington and Georgia Ann Romans; they preceded him in death.

He married Twila E. Terry in May 1938 in Greenville; and they spent the next nearly 70 years together until her passing in 2006.

Throughout his life, Mr. Romans worked as a cotton farmer, an airplane mechanic, and finally as a janitor for what is now Texas A and M University-Commerce. He was a member of the Park Street Baptist Church.

Mr. Romans is survived by three grandchildren, Tony Wallace and Todd Wallace, both of Greenville, and Shannon Young of White Rock; two sisters, Estell Baxley of Cumby and Marie Goodman of Royse City; great-grandchildren Anthony "Bo" Wallace, Maegen Wallace, Kailob Wallace and Kaden Wallace; and by a son-in-law, Jimmy Wallace of White Rock.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Patsy Ruth Wallace and siblings Edith Romans, C.W. Romans, Haskell Romans, Vera Hall, Babe Romans, Irene Davis, Pete Romans, Odell Strickland and Desmond Romans.

Services for Mr. Romans will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Cumby with Pastor Johnny Hailes officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cumby Cemetery with Jimmy Wallace, Larry Vaughn, Randy Baxley, Bo Wallace, Kalob Wallace, and Kaden Wallace serving as pallbearers.

Visitation is held from 4 – 6 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home in Greenville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cumby Funeral Home.
