Known by her middle name, Louise Gehrke (Grandma Mumme) was born in Addison, Illinois. She was baptized February 24th, 1860 and confirmed in March 1875. She and Wilhelm farmed 80 acres near Itasca, Illinois before moving to Minnesota with one teenager (Martha) and 4 younger children, Amanda, Alvina, William and Alma.

After Wilhelm died, she remained on the farm in South Branch where she lived until her death. Her only son William took over the responsibilities of the farm. It is now a century farm owned by her grandson.
