Baxter Springs, Kan. — Ruby Pauline Stribling, 82, died at her home Tuesday, April 17, 2001 after a long illness.

She was born October 16, 1918 in Galena, Kan., the daughter of William P. and Ruby F. (Gandy) Sturgis.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Baxter Springs, and was a lifelong resident in the Galena, Baxter Springs area.

On February 8, 1958, she married Billy L. Stribling, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1989.

She was a true homemaker in every aspect.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Bonnie Phillips, Eugene, Ore.; five sisters, Margaret Branton, Valley, Neb., Ruth Hinman,, Parsons, Kan., Mildred Simon, Valley, Neb., Jean Clemens, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Marlys Patton, Tonganoxie, Kan.; a sister-in-law, June Sturgis, Baxter Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Terry Stribling; and five brothers, Joseph Sturgis, Donald Sturgis, Elmer Sturgis, Leroy Sturgis and Wayne Sturgis.

Services will be held Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. Rev. Jeff Martin will officiate.

Burial will be in Gandy Cemetery, Galena, Kan.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 20, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Note: Ruby was married to Paul Dorman, Dec. 21, 1941, Joplin, Jasper County MO.

Lee Stribling
, 63, 520 E. 18th St., died
at 1:55 a.m. Saturday at his home after
a long illness.

Mr. Stribling was born July 12,
1925, at Joplin, Mo. He moved to
Baxter Springs 22 years ago from
Oswego. He was employed as a
mechanic for Yellow Freight, retiring
in 1987. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church and the American
Legion. He was a Navy veteran of
World War II, serving on the aircraft
carrier USS Franklin, known as "Big
Ben.”

He married Pauline Sturgis on Feb.
8, 1958, at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son,
Terry Stribling, Claremont, N.H.; a
daughter, Bonnie Phillips, Dexter,
Ore.; three brothers, Ray Stribling,
Derby, Roy Stribling, Valley Center,
and Bob O’Dell, Carl Junction, Mo.;
three sisters, Frances Coates, San
Diego, Calif., Betty Anderson, Wichita,
and Dorothy Zumwalt, Independence,
Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday
at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. The Rev.
Otho Boyd and the Rev. Fred Dycus
will officiate. Burial will be in Gandy
Cemetery, Lowell.

Pallbearers will be Jess Fry, Glen
Phalen, Cannon Price, Bob Pate,
Henry Bendure and Gary Dardene.

The family will receive fidends from
5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral
chapel.
