Ralph Richard Akenson, 63, of Gordon, died Wednesday at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday from First Lutheran Church in Barron with Rev. Paul Baarseth of Amery officiating. Burial was made in Wayside Cemetery at Barron.

Mr. Akenson was born March 18, 1925 at Red Lake Falls, Minn. He moved to the Barron area as a young boy with his family and was raised there. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. On July 26, 1945, he married Minnie Avery in Texas. He worked for the Ford garage in Barron for 25 years, the last several as manager. In 1971, he moved to Amery and purchased the Amery Motors Ford dealership, which he sold in 1978, when he began work for the Amery school system until retiring last March. He was a member of the Amery VFW, National Rifle Assn., and Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Amery, where he had served on the church council.

Mr. Akenson is survived by his wife, Minnie of Gordon; three sons, David of River Falls, and Gregory and Bruce, both of Barron; six grandchildren; four brothers, Glen of St. Croix Falls, Herbert of Rice Lake, Lester of Gore, Va., and Harvey of Arlington Heights, Minn.; four sisters, Harriet Keljik and Ardith Burns, both of Minneapolis, Minn, Arlene Konieczny of Franklin and Ruth Theis of Foley, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
