Minnie Alvina "Mynn" (Avery) Akenson, 85, of Rice Lake, formerly of Gordon, WI passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Thomas Landing Memory Care in Rice Lake, WI. Mynn was born February 26, 1926 in Chetek, WI the daughter of Norman and Esther (Drake) Avery. She grew up in the Rice Lake Area, and graduated from Rice Lake High School. She then moved to Chicago for secretary work for a short time. On July 26, 1945 Mynn married Ralph R. Akenson in Texas. They moved back to the Barron Area, then in 1972, moved to Amery, WI. In 1988, they moved to their retirement home in Gordon, WI. She lived there until moving to Rice Lake in 2009.

Mynn enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo, bowling, and fishing with her friend LaVerne Lien. She loved her grandchildren very much. Mynn was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary in Barron, WI. While in Gordon, WI, she volunteered at the Senior Center. She was also a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Barron.

Mynn is survived by her 3 sons, Greg (JoAnn) Akenson of Mondovi, WI; Bruce Akenson of Gordon, WI; David (Gail) Akenson of River Falls, WI; 1 brother, Jimmie Avery of Montfort, WI; 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Sara, Kristopher, Andrew, Rebecca, Angela; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 brothers, Warren, Wesley, and Charles; 3 sisters, Susanna Collins, Marjorie Eastman, and Evelyn Davis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in Barron, WI, with Rev. Bruce Beyer officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Wednesday from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
