Glenn R. Akenson, 89, St. Croix Falls, Wis., died suddenly Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.

Glenn was born Jan. 20, 1924, near Red Lake Falls, Minn., to Themen and Merlyn Akenson. He graduated from Barron High School in 1943. Glenn served in the U.S. Navy for two years with the 441st Communications Unit in the South Pacific.

On Nov. 21, 1948, he married Leona at the First Baptist Church in Barron. He worked for Simonson Lumber, St. Croix Falls, for 39 years.

Glenn was active in the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 143. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching St. Croix Falls High School sports and especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are a son Curtis (Jill) of White Bear Lake, Minn.; grandchildren Justin, Alyssa and Erica; brothers Herb (Dorothy) of Rice Lake and Harvey of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister Ruth Theis of Sauk Center, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2001; brothers Leo, James, Ralph, Lester and Lyle; and sisters Harriet Kelgik, Arlene Konieczyn and Ardeth Burns.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 6, from United Methodist Church, St. Croix Falls. Interment with military honors followed at St. Croix Falls Cemetery.
