Ellis, Kansas -- William Michael "Bill" Geist, 85, died December 30, 2009 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He was born May 5, 1924 in Trego County, KS to Michael Geist and Anna Marie Emma Younker.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Ellis County Public Works, and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served with the 300th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna Marie Weber Geist; two sons, Larry Geist (Lori) of Luray, and Gary Geist (Dixie) of Gilbert, AZ; two daughters, Marjorie Geist and Sharon Geist, both of Alvarado, TX; a daughter-in-law, Dottie Geist West (Pete) of Aiken, SC; 5 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Bill, Jr., William, and Kenneth John; his parents, and his siblings, Andrew Leo Geist, Theresia Florence Stenzel, Amelia Lucille (Molly) Pfannenstiel, Adam Geist, Richard Geist, Christina Augustine, Leoba Katherine Dinkel, Pauline Weber, Frances Rose Graf, Eva Marie Slaughter, and Clara Joan Weber.

Services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial with military honors was at St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Keithley Funeral Chapel.
