CHEROKEE, Iowa | Marilyn R. Anderson, 80, of Cherokee passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Meriden (Iowa) Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Larry Ostercamp officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be sent to the family at greenwoodfuneral.com.

Marilyn was born in Centerville, S.D., on Sept. 30, 1931. Marilyn married Richard Anderson on Nov. 11, 1951. They were blessed with 60 wonderful years together. They raised their family in Cherokee. Marilyn worked at Cherokee State Bank, and they were members at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church.

In 1978 they moved to Kingsburg, Calif., where they farmed fruit and grapes for 20 years and were active members in the Kingsburg Evangelical Free Church. These years were special as they were surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

Marilyn will be remembered for her wonderful gift of hospitality and entertaining both family and friends.

Upon retirement, they returned to Cherokee, spending their winters in Lake Havasu, Ariz. This past year during her recent illness, she drew her strength and deepened her relationship with Jesus Christ.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Richard Anderson of Cherokee, IA; sons, Dan (Marlys) of Cherokee, IA; and Scott (Carol) Anderson of Kingsburg, Calif; grandchildren Dan Anderson Jr. of Aurelia, Iowa, Chantelle (Jared) Friedman of Brandon, S.D., Carlene Anderson of Los Gatos, Calif., and Tyler Anderson of Walnut Creek, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Maddy, Lauren, and Jacob Friedman; two brothers, Stanley (Verla) Knudson and Delmar (Arlene) Knudson, all of Centerville, SD; one sister, Ferne (Delmer) Olson of Beresford, S.D.; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sigvold and Ruth Knudson; brother, Ralph; infant sister, Lorraine; and granddaughter Brigitte Anderson.
