Ruth Esther Peterson was born on March 17, 1899 southeast of Centerville S.D. in Turner County, to parents Simon and Oline (Lebacken) Peterson and entered into death on February 1, 1988 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD.
Ruth received her education at North Riverside School in Clay County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church and the A.L.C.W.
On July 3, 1918, Ruth married Sigvold Knudson in Centerville SD. They made their home in the Centerville area where they farmed until they moved into Centerville in 1970. In 1985, Ruth and Sig moved to the Pioneer Nursing Home in Viborg SD.
Survivors include her husband Sig; three sons, Stanley and his wife Verla, Ralph and his wife, Carolyn, and Delmer and his wife Arlene all of Centerville SD; two daughters, Ferne and her husband Delmer Olson of Beresford SD, and Marilyn and her husband Dick Anderson of Kingsburg CA; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by one daughter, Lorraine, three grandchildren, all in infancy, six brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held, February 4, 1988 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville SD. Service of interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Centerville. Wass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
