Orlie Leo Barker, 81, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Covenant Hospice Center in Pensacola, Fla. He was a resident of Pensacola.

He was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Columbia, Ky., to the late Arthur L. and Ollie (Burton) Barker.

He married Bertha Barker, and she preceded him in death in 1988. He married Dolores (Belcher) Barker, and she survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Linda (Pic) Hadley of Edinburgh; two stepchildren, Julie (Lloyd) Patterson of Pensacola and Gary (Terri) Melton of Georgetown; four siblings, Marvin Barker of McEwen, Tenn., Calvin Barker and Johnnie Barker, both of Edinburgh, and Sally Barker of McMinnville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, Dean Barker and Beverly Vincent; a stepson, Dennis Melton; and seven siblings, Verlon, Arlon and Donald Barker, Delcie Branigin, Velma Keller, Verda Lovett and Kathy King.

He was a member of Scenic Hill Church of Christ in Pensacola.

Orlie served his country in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, retiring from the Indiana National Guard as a chief warrant officer.

The Rev. Nathan Goen will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Indiana National Guard Ceremonial Unit.

Orlie Leo Barker, 81, died Sunday after a short bout with cancer. Orlie was loved by all who knew him.
He was born in Kentucky Feb 21, 1931. He served his country in both the Navy and the Army, retiring from the Indiana National Guard as a chief warrant officer. Orlie cared for his wife Bertha until her death from Huntington's disease. He was preceded in death by his son, Dean Barker and daughter, Beverly Vincent, also victims of Huntington's. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Hadley of Edinburgh, IN and her children Devon and Paige. He is also survived by a grandson, Nathan Barker of Columbus, IN.
Orlie remarried in 1990 to Dolores Melton of New Albany Indiana and they made their home in Pensacola in 1991. He became stepfather to Gary Melton of Georgetown IN and Julie Patterson of Pensacola.
Orlie was a long-time member of the Church of Christ.
A viewing will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on Scenic Hwy. Tuesday June 19 from 4 until 6pm followed by a short memorial service. His body will be interned with military honors at the Edinburgh IN cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Mt Dora Children's Home in Florida or the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Hwy., is in charge of arrangements.
