Donald Lee Becker, age 75, of Guttenberg, IA, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at his home comforted with his wife by his side.

He was born July 22, 1936 in Clayton IA, the son of John and Sylvia (Nuehring) Becker.

Don received his education from the Guttenberg High School, attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, onto the University of Iowa and ending his education at Murray State in Kentucky. For many years, Don taught and coached at Lost Nation Coon Rapids and at HLV of Victor.

On August 29, 1955, Don was married to Kay Aulwes at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and the two of them were later blessed with a son Kevin.

Later in life Don and Kay returned to Guttenberg where together they owned and operated the Style Shop on Front Street till their retirement. Through Don's coaching, he was able to take their basketball, golf and cross country teams to state and he even had a baseball who went on to pitch in the world series. Through the years, Don served as the President of the Guttenberg Chamber, President of the St. Paul Church Council, Hospital Board of Directors, Mississippi Gambling Commission and has been a Mason and Shriner for many years.

Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay; one son Kevin (Deb ) Becker of Marion IA, two grandchildren, Kyle (Kristin) Becker, Katie (Kyle) Nelson; four great grandchildren, AJ and Luke Becker, Toby and Parker Nelson; one sister Esther McFarland of Reno NV; one brother Otto Becker of Tenn. and many other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Vina Walke, Christ Becker, Wilma Mueller and Mildred Saeugling.

Don made countless friends during his years as a teacher and coach, and then as a small business owner. Entertaining family and friends over a glass of homemade wine and a game of cards, which he always seemed to win, was a source of great joy. His 50+ year battle with multiple sclerosis was an inspiration to many. Don so adored his wife, son and daughter-in –law, grandchildren and great grandsons. He will be dearly missed.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to either Iowa Hospice, Hope Cancer Lodge at Mayo Clinic or the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
