Mrs. Homer (Myrtie) Shanks, age 75, of Yale was killed in an auto accident at approximately 6:15pm Thursday at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 9 at Hoopeston. Mr. Shanks and a granddaughter, Darlene Coleman, and her daughter were also in the car, but were not seriously injured. All persons in the other car were not seriously hurt either.

Myrtie Jane Shanks was born in Clark County, May 27, 1894 to Robert and Sarah Chapman. Her parents and eleven brothers and sisters all preceded her in death. Death came instantly to her in an accident July 31, 1969 at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 4 days.

She was married to Homer Shanks on November 26, 1914; almost 55 years of companionship. Eight children were born to this union.

She accepted Christ as her Savior early in life and, for the last 33 years, she has been a devout and faithful member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the New Hope congregation.

She is survived by her husband, Homer; 5 daughters, Cleda Adkisson, Clara Proctor, Lois Robison, Helen Bush, and Marjorie Thompson; 3 sons, Noble, Don, and Lee; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2pm Sunday at the Hickory (New Hope) Church, south of Casey, with Rev. Ray Janes officiating. Interment was in the Casey-Cumberland Cemetery.
